This is absolutely the worst Frommer's guide I have ever used. I have used Frommers and Fodors over that last 15 years of my life on trips to Scotland, Paris, Japan, and Finland. This is the first time that I am horribly dissappointed.1. The info is old and stale. There was on paragraph I had to read outloud to my wife. It talked about "the upcoming construction that is scheduled to begin in 2011..." Uhmm...seriously??? In a 2013 guide you are telling me about upcoming construction that IS scheduled to begin 2 years ago. NOT TIMELY!!!2. Went to eat at a restaurant called the Conch Shell based upon the review in the book. Talked of it being a local eating spot. It was a tourist trap restaurant. Had we not walked there to eat based upon the review, we would have turned and walked out. The food was average at best, and the prices were 2 times the prices of most other places, and it was NOT a local type place. Made me feel that the restaurant paid for the add or gave the writer free food and drinks ($9.75 for the "highly recommended Goombay Splash??? that is higher than the cruise ship prices!)3. Beach info---decent info on the most popular beaches, very little on the others.4. Snorkling info---VERY LIMITED! The book did say that one of the beaches was the best for off the beach snorkeling (Love Beach). We were told by 3 different local people that the beach was not any good as sea grass had overgrown the coral and it was in awful condition there now. We were also told that Love Beach has been like this for THE LAST 2 YEARS!!!I am returning this book as I would not loan it out to my worst enemy, and I would not want anyone that I like to rely on its outdated and misleading info.
Taking my first trip to the Bahamas and this guide has given me lots to look forward to seeing doing and eating. It will b packs into my luggage so I don't forget what I wanted to do where. This book is a must for anyone visiting the Bahamas and it gives you ideas on how much things costs as well
This book is on the Bahamas so if you are looking to get brief descriptions on all the outlying islands this will probably work for you but I didnt feel that it gave me enough info where I wanted.
Very helpful for our 9 family member trip to Atlantis, especially for restaurants. Also helpful for what to do in the area.
I was a little disapointed there is not much on Paradise Island. What was in there was good info but who knows how recent the info is.
Not really any pictures, but lots of great information for each island, I highly recommend this book if you are going to the Bahamas
Very complete, even prices and addresses. Lots of good places to visit when in Bahamas and good places to eat.
I bought this "kindle version" for our family visit to Nassau/Paradise Island. It was utterly useless and skimpy information. It seemed to have been written for the "cruise ship's passenger" crowd, whose may have little time to visit the island, except shopping around the port and drive-by sightseeing. We end up used most of the information we collected from information booths at the airport and hotel. I have used several Frommer's guides in the past, and this one was one of the worst.
