If you generally love to develop cutting edge apps and data, this book is for you! SQL Perf, tools, security, high availability, managing…oh… and SQL on Linux. All current and cutting edge. Read it!
Bob has a talent for communicating technical information; in person, on stage, and in writing. I've been using the book to get into Linux after a 25-year hiatus since the last time I touched a Unix box, and all his explanations are very clear. I like how he presents the steps for something and then goes into depth later, so you can use the book as a quick reference for tasks and as a source for learning the background. Apart from covering Linux and all aspects of configuring and using SQL Server on Linux, he also covers a lot of general SQL Server administration, so newbies, seasoned SQL Server DBAs, and crossover DBAs from other database platforms will all find the book very useful. I bought a copy for everyone on the SQLskills team and we're all benefiting. Summary: great book, full of relevant information, clear writing.
The go to book for MS SQL on Linux. Bob does a great job breaking things down, explaining them, and also relating some interesting work stories and anecdotes throughout.A must have reference if you are considering SQL on Linux, and even if you are not - a great reference manual.

Really well done, as usual from Bob. If you want a book not only on Linux and SQL Server but a quick course on SQL Server in general, this is the one. If you want to understand not only how something works but why it works, Bob shows you that, too. Whether you are a new database professional or a seasoned DBA, you'll find lots to learn here.
I have appreciated Bob Ward's knowledge-sharing evangelism of SQL Server on Linux... that gets you started, but his book follows-through on all the questions that crop up as you start to dig in. If you are moving to SQL Server on Linux, considering it this book is a worthwhile investment. Even if you work with SQL Server and have not considered running on Linux, you should get this book and start to get ramped-up: we are going to see a lot more of SQL Server on Linux in future releases.
