This was a great ending to a fascinating series. I’m a big fan of time travel stories in general, and it’s rare to find a unique theory/methodology used to support the premise. The author does his research thoroughly, resulting in a story that is internally consistent and feels plausible.As a reader what I enjoy the most in a story is getting to know, care about and watch the evolution of the people/creatures/entities that inhabit the book’s universe. This is the third book in his Quantum series, and features several interesting and complex characters that I was introduced to in his earlier books. I was pleased with how the author wrapped up and resolved both plot and character questions.The story itself was captivating. I almost literally did not put the book down from start to finish. While you could probably read and enjoy this without reading the other two books in the series, I recommend starting at the beginning with Quantum Space and Quantum Void. Great finish to a great series!
I very much liked the story, but I was disappointed that it represented sexual harassment, infidelity, and religious people as stupid and mean. The sexual harassment was unresolved and made me feel the author was encouraging it. It is getting hard just to enjoy a good story without all this other garbage thrown in. But, if you are OK with that; the story is very good and entertaining.
I do not appreciate the romance. Every author seems to think he can write well about romantic moments and does so because he feels it is necessary. For me, it always slows the plot and adds nothing. Outside of this, the story was interesting and educational. The weakest part was the antagonist. It was far fetched and unbelievable.
A mind-bending romp that plausibly considers time-travel paradoxes and excursions through an orthogonal, time-like dimension. Daniel Rice reprises his role as the intrepid investigator with the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the third installment of the Quantum series by Douglas Phillips.
Ive read all 3. recommend them all. Not sure what the next Quantum could be about but his ideas. characters and stories are good.
Well written. Good plot. Very enjoyable. Love the explanations of fact and fiction after the book finishes in all the books of the series.
I’ve read the previous Quantum books, and was really excited to see a new one has come out! Doug Phillips does not disappoint! This is by far my favorite of all of them, and I actually read it twice - the 2nd time I was able to slow down and appreciate the depth of his character development and nuances of the storyline, because I wasn’t rushing toward the end. For those of us who have entertained the thought of time travel….what if…? …he takes us on a roller coaster ride of believable, intense action with no holds barred. His scientific discussions are understandable and don’t hold up either the main or the side story lines, and he handles them in a subtle, conversational manner, which I’ve come to expect and appreciate when reading his books. You will fall in love with his characters right along with them as they fall for each other. Great book. Highly recommend!
I liked this conclusion. Not just hard science but tracing the trends in our current society.One thing I didn't like was the way the scientists puzzled over time loops. They really aren't as complicated as the discoveries in the first two books. Think of them like oak galls or pearls - blocking off something no longer relevant. The motion is basically like a roundabout. You can go completely around then exit at s different place.In general, I thought the characterization was a little weak .Well worth the read.
