About the Author
Maurice Sendak’s children’s books have sold over 30 million copies and have been translated into more than 40 languages. He received the 1964 Caldecott Medal for Where the Wild Things Are and is the creator of such classics as In the Night Kitchen, Outside Over There, Higglety Pigglety Pop!, and Nutshell Library. In 1970 he received the international Hans Christian Andersen Medal for Illustration, in 1983 he received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award from the American Library Association, and in 1996 he received a National Medal of Arts in recognition of his contribution to the arts in America. In 2003, Sendak received the first Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, an annual international prize for children’s literature established by the Swedish government.

This book has it all, the stories, the cheekie Rosie, the songs and the music. I couldn't find the Carol Kingn production on DVD (only found it on VHS), so this book is the next best thing. Thankfully the young couple to whom I gifted this book come from musically gifted families who can give the songs equal justice for the new baby. Now I have to order another one for when I have grandchildren in case my VHS player goes out.
We got the Nutshell books (which the musical is based on) as a gift; my parents also have the record (yes, record) of this show and our daughter loved listening to the songs. We started listening to them on YouTube and she kept loving them, so we got this so I could play them on the piano. If that's what you want to do, this book is useful. Depending on your skill level, the songs might be too simplistic or just right - be aware that the real songs have introductory portions, and those aren't in this music, nor are other embellishments, so it sounds simpler than what's on the recordings you might listen to. But that also makes it easier to play. I'd have liked the harder version personally.
I read Really Rosie and played the songs for my elementary student for many years and never got tired listening to them over and over. I'm now going to let my grandchildren enjoy them.
My daughter is enjoying sharing the Really Rosie adventure with her daughter and I love watching them both! Granddaughter is 7
The book was in excellent shape, the price was extraordinary. I was disappointed though in that it did not have all the songs, and omitted some I particularly wanted like "The Awful Truth". Also the music was dummed down some from what you hear on the soundtrack.
