About the Author
Michael Karpovage has worked in the graphic design and marketing field for over twenty years as an award-winning art director and map illustrator. He has created a broad range of commissioned 2D and 3D maps. The Savannah Historic District Illustrated Map (2012) was his first birds-eye-view pictorial map available to the public. In 2015, he released a companion title, the Haunted Savannah Illustrated Map, to capture tales of the dead in America's Most Haunted City. 2016 saw the release of the Bonaventure Cemetery Illustrated Map, and in 2018 he released the Charleston Historic District Illustrated Map. Michael is also a published novelist; Crown of Serpents (2009) followed by Map of Thieves (2014). Michael is a native of western New York and a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology. He lives in Roswell, GA.

I bought this as I was visiting Savannah for a week with my husband and wanted an easy to read map that minimized our arguments in the middle of the street!I am notoriously bad on directions and reading maps, so ANYTHING that makes it easier for me is welcome. I LOVE this map. I found it super easy to use and get my bearings. It is a great size to carry around. Folds easily. Not only that, it contains some interesting facts and tourist information. Even my husband thought it was good, and he is a 'just give me the facts' kind of guy.I bought a few books on Savannah, but this was by far the most useful and ultimately the most used of them. I would definitely recommend this map and will look for the same series when visiting other places.I also purchased Haunted Savannah Illustrated Map, which was also very good - but personally I found the Historic district one most useful.
There is a lot of good detail on this historical map but the frustrating part is that the map is upside down with north at the bottom of the map vs. the traditional north at the top. This makes it very confusing in trying to find your way around, especially using this along with maps in guide books which are printed the traditional way.
You’ll wish you had this before planning a trip to Savannah. Great, accurate info to map out your itinerary for sight seeing each day efficiently. You can buy this map in town for $2 less but under very limited availability. But you won’t have time to read all the extras details on the spot. Do yourself a favor and get this well before your trip.
This map helped so much on our recent trip to Savannah. I enjoyed the graphics as well the building and location information. The only confusing part is understanding the compass direction for navigation. The directions are not in the normal positions, so it just gets some time to get used to the flipped around version. It was compact enough, where I could fold and carry it in my purse. The paper is very durable and help up to constant use of open the map, and then re-folding it as well.
Map price on back of map says $5.95. I paid $7.95. And I bought two. So I suggest you save a couple bucks and find this elsewhere. Also, a review mentioned this is laminated, it is NOT laminated. Which means if I want it to last (especially on rainy days) I'll need to invest additional money to laminate it. On the bright side: (1) Is it pretty? Yes. (2) Does it look as though it will be helpful on our trip? Yes. (3) Will I be grateful for the magnifying glass on my iphone? Absolutely!
The best map we had in Savannah. Do not go there without it. Great graphics.The only negative was that South and North were reversed which was a little confusing. This was necessary to put in the labeling.
This is a great map of Savannah, it's the nicest that I've ever seen. The map is beautifully illustrated so you not only see the historic-district laid out nicely, but you can recognize a lot of the buildings from the illustrations.I would kind of like to see a laminated version of this map (I'm tough on maps), but it is nicely printed on a pretty water-resistant coated paper.For the money, I'm thrilled that I bought this map and I think if you're visiting Savannah for the first time, you'll be very happy you bought it.
Map was helpful at locating historic areas, however the DOT transportation section is 100% wrong, as it has been changed to a different route. Don’t buy this map, for the DOT route, or you’ll spend 45 minutes to an hour walking around downtown Savannah, trying to locate one of the stops.
